Auf nach Afrika

Nach einem netten Abschiedstreffen mit Freunden und Familie haben wir gut geschlafen und sind froh, dass es jetzt endlich losgeht. Ziel: Dar es Saalam in Tansania. Wir übernehmen dort einen Toyota von einer netten Familie, Kristina, Felix und dem 3jährigen Tom. Sie waren nun schon 6 Monate mit dem Auto unterwegs und wir mieten das Reisemobil inkl. Dachzelt für unsere 3monatige Tour von Ost- nach Westafrika. Um uns über Reiseroute und diverse Geheimnisse des Toyos austauschen zu können, verbringen wir erst mal ein paar Tage auf einem Campingplatz nahe der Stadt.

Markt in der Stadt

Unsere Route führt uns nach Pangani, Lake Chala, Marangu, Moshi bis Arusha am Kilimanjaro, viele Frauen in bunten Kleidern mit Bananenstauden auf dem Kopf laufen am Straßenrand entlang. Die Landschaft ist saftig grün und sehr tropisch.

In der Stadt wollen wir ins Internetcafe und Geld wechseln, aber niemand will unsere Travellerschecks. Im Hotel Impala bekommen wir Geld auf Visa Card. Nun können wir unsere Vorräte im Shoprite Supermarkt auffüllen. Es kann losgehen, zur Safari in den Ngorongoro Krater.

Da der Park seine Pforten um 6 Uhr am Morgen öffnet und bekanntlich Morgenstund Gold im Mund hat, stehen wir um 5 Uhr auf, packen schnell alles zusammen und fahren los zum Gate. Um kurz nach 7  registrieren wir uns im Gästebuch und genießen schon nach weiteren wenigen Minuten den grandiosen Ausblick über den 16x23km großen Krater.

Auf dem Kraterboden(2300m Höhe) sehen wir Gnus, Gazellen, Kuhantilopen, Elefanten, Erdferkel, Strauße, Hippos, Nashörner, Paviane, Meerkätzchen, Riesentrappen, Flamingos, Marabus, Zebras und Löwen.

Über Iringa nach Mbeya zur Utengule Farm. Diese liegt idyllisch inmitten der Kaffe Plantage. Wir freuen uns auf die spannende Führung und die Informationen über den Kaffeeanbau in Tansania. Wir werden herzlich aufgenommen und nehmen an dem Familienleben der Schweizer Kaffebauern teil.Die reifen Früchte der großen  Avocadobäume im Garten bereichern unser Abendmahl.

Auf zur Grenze nach Malawi! Dort brauchen wir länger als Erwartet. Hier ein Stempel, da eine Unterschrift usw. Aber die Zöllner von Malawi sind äußerst nett, und wir  müssen nicht mal eine Bearbeitungsgebühr bezahlen, da wir ja noch kein Geld gewechselt haben. Fahren noch bis Livingstonia, über holprige Serpentinen Pisten.

Nkhata Bay, Nkhwazi Lodge, das Paradies! Wir campen direkt am Strand, weißer Sand, glasklares Wasser, ein herrliches Örtchen am Malawisee.

Wir machen Strecke bis Lilongwe. Dort wird eingekauft und wir melden uns per Internet Zuhause. Nun ist es nicht mehr weit bis Sambia, wieder ein neuer Länderpunkt! Das Aus- und Einreisen dauert wieder afrikanisch lange. In der ersten Bank tauschen wir sambische Kwacha, nun sind wir gefühlte Millionäre! So viele Scheine, dass die Bankangestellten mit Tabletts voller Geld umher laufen. Nächste Anlaufstelle ist der South Luangwa National Park. Wir schreiben den 1.April 2004

Der Hahn kräht und wir wollen nach dem Frühstück gleich los. Von Petauke bis Lusaka brauchen wir ca 4 Stunden, die Straße ist heute wesentlich besser und wir fahren einen guten Schnitt bis nach Siavonga am Karibasee. Die Landschaft ist hügelig und sehr grün.

Am 8.April bestaunen wir die Victoria Fälle! Der erste Europäer, der die Viktoriafälle entdeckte, war David Livingstone, schottischer Missionar und Afrikareisender. Er hörte bereits 1851 von ihnen und entdeckte sie vier Jahre später, am 16. November 1855. Er benannte sie zu Ehren der Königin Victoria Victoria Falls. Die einheimischen Kololo nennen den Wasserfall Mosi-oa-Tunya = „Donnernder Rauch“.

Von Maun aus geht’s auf direktem Weg zum Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Die Kalahari zählt zu den größten Naturschutzgebieten der Erde und besteht aus einer flachen Savannenlandschaft und ist jetzt kurz nach der Regenzeit noch sehr grün und hoch mit Gräsern bewachsen. Wir erleben schöne Sonnenuntergänge und typisches Afrika-Feeling.

Eigentlich wollen wir zu den Salzpfannen Kubu Island, doch ein Wasserloch und mehrere Stunden graben zwingen uns zum umkehren.

Viele aufregende Tage in Botswana neigen sich dem Ende. Am 3.Mai 2004 reisen wir nach Namibia ein.  Grootfontein, Otjiwarongo, Kamanjab. Auf einer Cheetha Farm haben wir die Gelegenheit Geparde aus nächster Nähe zu erleben.

Wir brechen auf in Richtung Atlantikküste. Wir wollen so nah wie möglich an den Skeleton Coast Nationalpark entlangfahre. Es geht durch das wunderschöne, felsige Damaraland. Die Pisten sind extrem staubig und wir ziehen eine riesige Wolke hinter uns her.

Puh, es stinkt! Aber kein Wunder, es sind tausend Robben in der Bucht am Cape Cross.

So rot glühend sich die Felsen am Abend verabschiedet haben, so rot begrüßen sie uns wieder am Morgen, die Hügel der Spitzkoppe.

Swakop, Long Beach, Walvis Bay, Soussusvlei. Die Strecke zieht sich und wir sind froh als wir am frühen Nachmittag Sesriem und das Gate zum Dünen-Park erreichen.Wir machen uns am Nachmittag auf zur berühmten 320 m hohen Sterndüne von Sossusvlei. Die Strasse ist verheerend schlecht, aber dafür die Landschaft grandios.

Eine unserer letzten Stationen dieser langen Reise ist der Fish River Canyon. Er liegt im südlichen Namibia und ist mit etwa 160 km Länge, bis zu 27 km Breite und bis zu 550 Meter Tiefe der größte Cañon Afrikas.

Am 23.Mai fliegen wir wieder in die Heimat. Viele Erinnerungen im Gepäck. Uns hat das Afrikafieber erwischt und  wir werden in Zukunft bestimmt noch öfter diesen Kontinent bereisen. Die freundlichen, herzlichen Menschen, die grandiose Landschaft und natürlich die Tierwelt hat uns gefangen genommen, das Gefühl von Freiheit und Weite, Reisen ohne Zeitdruck, Lagerfeuer unterm Sternenhimmel, das einfache Leben ohne Konsum, dies und noch vieles mehr kann zur Sucht werden. Wir schmieden schon jetzt Pläne für die nächste lange Reise, nach Afrika oder aber auch einem anderen Kontinent…wer weiß?
